Hold the ornament with opening at the top. Pour straight down to the bottom; the puddle should be dime size. Fig. 1
Tip ornament slightly to spread paint further onto glass.
Hold ornament upright again and pour another color on top of first.
Tilt ball so second color will coat sides beyond the first.
Pour in third color holding ornament upright again. Always pour new color on top of previous ones.
Tilt so the third color coats the glass and shows from the outside.
At this point you may want to put the ball down and let it rest a couple of minutes so the paint will “pool” in one spot (as
shown in figure 2). Hint: You may have to nest the ball in paper or lean it against something to keep from moving.
Now that the colors have “pooled”, tilt the ball to paint more glass.
Continue adding colors, in the sequence you like and “pooling” occasionally to collect any extra paint.
When the glass is covered, pour out any extra paint so the inside will dry faster.
If you want the colors to stay in a horizonatal direction, let the ball dry on its side as in fig. 3.
The first day, turn the ball a quarter of the way about every hour or two. This will keep it from pooling in one spot. Occasionally pour out any extra paint.
Turn the ball half way everyday after until the paint is dry inside. It may take 3 or 4 days to dry depending on the humidity.
If you’d like a vertical pattern to the colors, prop the ball upside down so the paint will drain out. There’s no need to turn but allow the same dry time.
