Spoon Critters
Supplies:
- 5 wooden spoons
- Wood shapes: three ¾” circles,
two 2 5/8” ovals, one 2” oval, three 7/8” ovals,
three 1½” ovals, four 1½” teardrops
- Mini craft stick
- 10 wiggle eyes
- Acrylic Paint: Gingerbread,
Golden Straw, Lamp (Ebony) Black,
Lemon Yellow, Peony Pink, Sable Brown,
Slate Grey, White Wash, Pumpkin
- Bristle paintbrushes: small, medium, large
- Miscellaneous items: fine and medium tip black markers, white craft glue, paper towel, paper plate
Instructions:
Let each wood piece dry completely between steps and before drawing or gluing.
Elephant:
- Paint the following Slate Grey: Wooden spoon, two 2 5/8” ovals (ears), 1½” oval (end of trunk), mini craft stick (trunk).
- Paint Peony pink cheeks and draw face and ear details with the black marker.
- Paint White Wash cheek dots using the end of a paintbrush handle.
- Adhere the wood pieces and wiggle eyes to the spoon.
Giraffe:
- Paint the following Lemon Yellow: Wooden spoon, two 1½” teardrops (ears), two 7/8” ovals (horns).
- Repeat steps 2 and 4 of the elephant instructions.
- Paint Gingerbread cheek dots and larger body spots with the end of a paintbrush handle.
Monkey:
- Paint the wooden spoon Sable Brown.
- Paint the following Golden Straw: One 1½” oval (muzzle), two ¾” circles (ears).
- Repeat steps 2 and 4 of the elephant instructions.
Zebra:
- Paint the wood pieces as follows: Wooden spoon: White Wash, Two 1 1/2" teardrops (ears): White Wash, 7/8" oval (mane): Lamp (Ebony) Black
- Paint Peony Pink cheeks on the spoon (see “How to Paint Cheeks”), and draw a mouth and nostrils with the fine-tip black marker.
- Draw stripes with the medium-tip black marker.
- Paint White Wash cheek dots using the end of a paintbrush handle.
- Adhere the wood pieces and wiggle eyes to the spoon (see photo).
Tiger:
- Paint the following: Wooden spoon: Pumpkin, Two 1 1/2" ovals (ears): Pumpkin, 3/4" circle (nose): Peony Pink
- Paint Peony Pink cheeks on the spoon (see “How to Paint Cheeks”), and draw a mouth with the fine-tip black marker.
- Draw stripes with the medium-tip black marker.
- Paint White Wash cheek dots using the end of a paintbrush handle.
- Adhere the wood pieces and wiggle eyes to the spoon (see photo).
