Uncle Sam Windsock
Supplies:
- 2 sheets blue fun foam
- 1 sheet each flesh tone, white, red and yellow fun foam
- White sheeting fabric - 121/2” x 18”
- Chalk or acrylic paint for face accents
- Black permanent marker
- Cool melt glue gun and glue
Instructions:
- Lay fabric out so that length is 18” and width is 12 1/2”
- Cut white fabric into 1/2” strips leaving 1” uncut band at top of fabric. Strips should be approximately 1/2” x 17” and the band at the top should be 12 1/2” x 1.”
- Glue uncut band of fabric about 2” from the edge of 12” side of blue fun foam sheet .
- Form circle with fun foam overlapping about 1/2” in back and glue in place.
- Cut white fun foam into 9 3/4”x 3 1/4” wide band.
- Where sheeting hangs out at the lower edge of the blue circle, glue white fun foam band. Remember to leave area in front for the face piece.
- Use face pattern to cut the face piece from flesh color fun foam.
- Cut a circle 9 1/2” around from the second sheet of blue fun foam. This will be the brim of the hat.
- Draw a second circle, 4” diameter, in center of the large circle. Cut this out and it will be used for the top of the hat.
- Place 9 1/2” circle over the white part of fun foam and glue in place.
- For hat band, cut another white strip 2 1/4” x 12” and glue onto hat with the seam in back.
- Cut 7 red stripes 1” x 2 1/4” and glue onto white hat band.
- Cut 3 stars from pattern and glue on the top of blue section of hat circle.
- Cut mushstache and glue to face piece.
- With chalk or paint, lightly blush cheeks and mouth area.
- Using permanent marker pen, make eye circle.
- Punch 3 holes in the top, one on each side of front star and one in the back and thread cording through the hole on the front side of hat.
- Leave about 8” of cording at the top and knot together at top.
