Teacher's Pencil


Teacher's Pencil Supplies:
  • 36” balsa wood - 4” wide
  • Raffia
  • Heavy gauge craft wire - black
  • 1 silk sunflower
  • Acrylic paints: calypso orange, black, silver, coral, maple sugar
  • Sealer
  • X-acto knife

Instructions:

  1. To make lead end of pencil, leave 5/8” in center at one end of board. With X-acto knife, cut 3 1/2” angle off each side.
  2. To create eraser, use 1” angles to round the corners on the other side of the board.
  3. Now that the board is cut, it is time to paint the pencil. For lead measure 1” from the point and paint black.
  4. Above black measure 3” and draw scallop line. Then paint this section maple sugar.
  5. The main section of your pencil will measure 26” from maple sugar section. Paint this section calypso orange.
  6. Paint the next 3 inches silver and the top eraser section coral. Let Dry.
  7. Use black to outline sections and embellish as desired. Allow to dry then apply sealer
  8. On eraser end of board cut 1 hole on each side.
  9. Use wire to make coil look. Glue wire into holes.
  10. Tie raffia around pencil and glue in place. Glue sunflower in center of the bow.
