So what is a TALL MOUSE, anyway? And how did it get the name? Family owned and operated for over 42 years, Tall Mouse Arts and Crafts combines supermarket size and selection with a real pride and commitment to customer service. Day and evening classes span the range from fine arts to kids crafts.

Unique and hard-to-find craft, hobby, art and party supplies have been the specialty of Tall Mouse since 1966. Avid crafters have long-known Tall Mouse to be the source for a complete line of products as diverse as jewelry findings, scrapbooking, egguery, art supplies, and wearable art, to custom framing and poster, fabrics, florals, party goods, balloons, and plaster and bisque.

School reports, mission and science projects require special supplies. Families enjoy shopping the evening and weekend hours to get the clay, miniatures, styrofoam and display boards they need. Kids and adults are intrigued by the large supply of model cars and high-powered model rocketry.

The question about the name "Tall Mouse" is asked daily, if not hourly at the locations in Yorba Linda, Cerritos and Laguna Niguel. For years it has been affectionately dubbed "Orange County's Second Most Famous Mouse" (after Mickey Mouse, of course!). This stems from its reputation as an ideal destination for regular busloads of Senior Citizen groups, and tourists who seek a unique shopping experience.
Marian Oehlman
Marian Oehlman
Tall Mouse was the brainchild of Marian Oehlman in 1966, before the word "entrepreneur" was fashionable. After she and a friend spent a brief but temporary season in retail Christmas goods, she was warned by well-meaning friends that most new businesses don't succeed. Challenged by the cliche to "build a better mousetrap", she instead decided to build a "better mouse"!

An artist friend sketched a smiling rodent with long legs as a new and improved version. The name that began in jest seemed just right for the new venture. What followed was a tiny store with one or two employees and lots of instructional help and personal attention. As the name and fame spread, the store grew in size many times, and Marian continued to seek out products to meet customer needs.

Fast forward to 2009 we see the second generation of family at Tall Mouse. The dream of Marian, now retired, and her late husband Dick, is now carried on by daughter and son-in-law, Ricki and Jim Bremer and a large team of dedicated mice.

The Bremers are fully committed to the family-style, full service craft store. With the large craft chains swallowing independents and other stores, they see the craft customer being limited to smaller selections of standardized products. Tall Mouse aims to keep the choices open for creative needs.
